The Chinese honeysuckle is a shrubby honeysuckle Lonicera pileata like. Both species are in the early twentieth century, introduced by the famous English plant explorer Ernest Henry Wilson. Wilson was in 1900 in China and was first Lonicera pileata. Eight years later he Lonicera nitida. One of the cultivars of Lonicera nitida bears his name. Other cultivars are Lonicera nitida 'Elegant' Lonicera nitida 'Maigrun' Lonicera nitida and 'Red Tips.'
